Mentions of Job Cuts Company Transcripts
- The first chart illustrates mentions of job cuts in company transcripts for select industries within the Russell 3000. In May 2025, the Health Care industry had the largest number of job cut mentions at 35, followed by the Information Technology industry at 32.
Mentions of Job Cuts in the News
- The number of news stories that discussed job cuts and layoffs declined to 6,402 for the week ended 5/23/2025. It has trended lower since the year-to-date peak on 2/28/2025 of 16,705 mentions of job cuts.
Initial Jobless Claims on the Rise
- Initial jobless claims for the week ended on 5/23/2025 increased to 240K from 226K in the prior week. Initial jobless claims remained slightly below the year-to-date high of 243K for the week ended 2/21/2025.
